Spartacus had so much fun at Bark n Splash this year! Last year he was really little and hid under tables the entire time. Not this year! He dove (actually, fell) right in and swam around. He chased other dogs and had a great time...
... for about 10 minutes. Then we noticed Spartacus's paw was bleeding. He ripped out his claw. He must have done it while he was struggling to get out of the pool (which was pretty funny looking). We decided to take him to the vet. We couldn't let him keep swimming while he was bleeding that much, after all. He was not happy to leave, but he was a bit more excited when he realized we were going to the vet. Here's a picture of his battle wound:
Yeah, I know, it doesn't look like much right now. But it was a LOT of blood, and we are first time pet parents, so we kinda freaked. 86 dollars later we have some antibiotics to keep it from getting infected and some special soap. He really is fine. His biggest qualm right now is that he didn't get to stay nearly long enough at Bark n Splash. Kev and my biggest qualm is that Sparty still smells like wet dog but we're reluctant to give him a bath tonight (he's been through a lot today, after all...).Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Poor Sparty. That must have been hard on him. Did they take off his complete dew claw? When we used to have the Great Dane's ears cropped, we got the dew claws done at the same time. Was pretty hard on them. Hope Sparty is feeling better. Love, Mama
